
With the commissioning of stage 1 of the Chemnitz model and the associated passing through Chemnitz main station as a second linking point between rail and tram, vehicles were required on lines C13 (Chemnitz - Burgstädt), C14 (Chemnitz - Mittweida) and C15 (Chemnitz - Hainichen) that can travel under the contact wire of the tram in Chemnitz (600 V DC) as well as on non-electrified branch lines of the railway and under the contact wire of DB lines (15 kV AC).
The 12 Citylink purchased by the VMS were given to the City-Bahn for operation on these 3 routes.
