About us
We’ve been around since 1997. As a local railway company in the heart of the „City of Modernism“, we are the driving force behind the Chemnitz models and the most innovative transport provider in the region.
By rail, we link the railway and the urban tram network to form an efficient and integrated local public transport system, offering people in the Central Saxony conurbation a reliable, accessible and direct connection to Chemnitz city centre – in the interests of the environment and to promote sustainable regional transport development.

City-Bahn currently employs 197 staff, of whom (as of July 2026) five are undergoing training as railway operations staff (EiB), five are aiming to switch careers to become train drivers (m/f/d) and two apprentices are training to become transport service clerks (m/f/o).

Since 2018, City-Bahn Chemnitz GmbH has been owned by two public shareholders: the Central Saxony Transport Association (ZVMS) with around 50 % and the municipal Versorgungs- und Verkehrsholding GmbH Chemnitz (VVHC), which also owns CVAG. The company was founded in 1997.
