Training as a railwayman in operational service

As an apprentice, you pass through all departments, because each one is indispensable for the smooth running of the railway. The mutual understanding for the work of our colleagues enables us to solve even the most difficult tasks together and successfully. You will gain an insight into our administration, you will be in charge of scheduling in the control centre or you will prepare timetables, shunt and look after customers in the operations preparation department. Railwayman in operational service (specialisation: locomotive driver and transport)

YOUR TASKS

  • You familiarise yourself with the rules of safe and smooth railway operation
  • You immerse yourself in the technical features of our vehicles and independently organise your preparation and completion services
  • You learn to shunt, prepare and drive trains in regular operation and, in the case of deviations from regular operation, mainly in passenger transport.
  • You learn how to recognise and eliminate vehicle malfunctions
  • You ensure that our customers reach their destination safely, punctually and reliably
  • You will also ensure that our passengers are properly informed.
  • You will get to know the work in our operations control centre, operations planning, train crew and other areas of the City-Bahn and actively participate there
  • You will undergo additional training including an examination to become a driver (according to §12 BOStrab) for our services in the tram network of the "Chemnitz Model".

YOUR PROFILE

Your previous knowledge:

  • At least a good secondary school leaving certificate or completed vocational training
  • Of course, a demonstrable interest in railway operations is an advantage - preferably also in the context of voluntary activities in industry-related associations or as a committed member of a park railway.

What you bring with you:

  • Fun with technology, logical understanding and manual skills
  • Good ability to concentrate, reliability, ability to work in a team and sense of responsibility
  • Stress resistance and physical and mental fitness
  • Willingness to work in shifts and on Sundays and public holidays
  • Sound knowledge of German, both written and spoken
