- Historic trains on the move - many station festivals

Chemnitz - Railway fans can celebrate 150 years of the Chemnitz Aue Adorf railway line next weekend. Historic special trains will be puffing along the tracks, past folk festivals and exhibitions. On 15 November 1875, the first scheduled train ran on the line.
City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: "Who wants to celebrate a railway festival in grey November? That's why we've brought the celebration forward a little and are hoping for good weather." Together with the municipalities along the Chemnitz Aue section of the line, a line festival will be held on the weekend of 6/7 September 2025: in addition to the usual timetable programme, the City-Bahn will bring special historical trains onto the track: these include a diesel locomotive with passenger coaches from Chemnitz, a steam locomotive with passenger coaches from Schwarzenberg and diesel rail buses.
On the page www.city-bahn.de/150 you will find all information about the festival programme, timetables and prices for special trips.
Here we celebrate:
- Chemnitz/Einsiedel: The starting point for all special trips is Chemnitz main station. From here, there are also specially bookable Purple Path tours with the City Railway and tour guide Ramona Wagner. A folk festival will be held in Einsiedel to mark the double anniversary of 150 years of the railway and 125 years of the town hall. The brewery invites you to enjoy a beer garden on Saturday.
- Dittersdorf: The Nagy butchery and clubs invite you to a party on the company premises. With food, drinks, music and a big band.
- Thalheim: Folk festival at Thalheim railway station with all the trimmings.
- Dorfchemnitz: Special exhibition on the anniversary of the route, music and catering by the Friends of the Museum Knochenstampfe
- Lößnitz: Tour of the old reception building, film and specialist presentations, clubs selling food and drinks, activities in the "Putzwolle" community centre. The cellar and vault festival takes place at the same time.
- Aue-Bad Schlema: Miners' brass band in the railway station, exhibition, lecture on the history of the Auer railway station, catering offers.
The entire route has been interrupted since 1975 due to the construction of the Eibenstock dam. However, the southern section Aue Adorf is also celebrating its anniversary. The Förderverein Historische Westsächsische Eisenbahnen (FHWE) is organising celebrations and events there: https://www.fhwe.de/index_wcdfestival.html. A free shuttle bus will run every two hours between Aue and Schönheide on both days of the event. In Schönheide Süd, the Friends' Association is expecting visitors to a narrow-gauge railway festival. There will be celebrations as far as Carlsfeld on both days. In Schönheide Ost, the opening of the renovated station building is on the programme.
On the Chemnitz Aue section of the line currently in operation, the City-Bahn Chemnitz now transports up to 6,000 passengers a day on the C13 and C14 lines. Following modernisation, the line has been part of the Chemnitz model since 2022: a modern rail connection that links the railway and tram networks, enabling fast, convenient and transfer-free travel between Chemnitz city centre and the surrounding area.
