Press Release

City-Bahn hires further Regio-Shuttle

  • Two lanes serve as a reserve
  • City-Bahn Managing Director: „Want to ensure timetable stability“
  • First operation between Glauchau and Stollberg tomorrow

Chemnitz As of today, some trains with an unusual appearance are travelling on some routes of the City-Bahn Chemnitz. These are rented Regio-Shuttle RS1s in the colours yellow, white and black.

City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: „We have hired the vehicles in order to be able to guarantee timetable stability throughout.“ Background: Necessary maintenance and repair work on the existing fleet could lead to bottlenecks in vehicle availability in the near future. Friedbert Straube: „We want to prevent that from happening in the first place.“ The two reserve vehicles are only ever used if there is a risk of breakdowns or if existing vehicles are needed for training journeys.

One of the two new vehicles will run on the RB 92 (Glauchau Stollberg) route for the first time on Wednesday, 18 February 2026. It will replace a City-Bahn Regio shuttle that is needed for training journeys.

The two rented Regio-Shuttles come from the company „HEROS Rail Rent“ from Fürth.

With the additional vehicle reserve at the City-Bahn, it is likely that the C15 line can be fully re-connected to Technopark. Coming from Hainichen, it currently ends at Chemnitz main station. The City-Bahn will provide information as soon as the date is finalised.
